OVERVIEW

The International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) is a stunning, innovatively designed convention, exhibition and event venue with expansive Sydney CBD and Harbour views.


The AU$1.5 billion, multi-building venue is an anchor for the larger 2011-2016 AU$3.4billion, Darling Harbour Redevelopment. Set amongst green spaces, restaurants, retail centres and a vibrant public domain, ICC Sydney is only a moment’s walk to Australia’s largest city centre.

THE CONSULTANCY

ASM Global, an invited consortia member to this landmark development, provided operator design input consultancy during the D&C stages through to Practical Completion and Venue Opening, undertaking full operational management in 2016.


Supporting acclaimed international Design firms, Populous and Hassell, and construction lead LendLease, ASM Global’s advice ensured a functionally, reputationally, operationally and commercially successful development, providing expert operator knowledge not available elsewhere.


As a group, we delivered an iconic and hugely successful Five-Star Convention and Exhibition Centre that has received multiple international Environmental, Tourism, Arts, Business, Design, Infrastructure and MICE Industry Awards.

THE VENUES
ICC Sydney can concurrently deliver multiple major events and exceptional experiences to over 55,000 guests, across the following three buildings:
  • International Convention Centre –7,000+ seats across 2x plenary theatres, 2x ballrooms, including Australia’s largest Grand Ballroom with spectacular city and water views as well as 2,400sqm Gallery Space featuring 5m ceilings throughout
  • International Exhibition Centre – 32,600sqm Exhibition Space across 7 Halls over 2 levels, with a 5,000sqm Event Deck = 37,600sqm
  • Aware Super Theatre – 8,000 seat, fan-shaped and reconfigurable state-of-the-art theatre, bringing the audience closer to the performance.

KEY MILESTONES
  • Delivering more than $200m direct revenues to NSW across 500+ events secured PRE-Opening, to be delivered over venue establishment period 2017-2023.
  • Named Australia’s best infrastructure project at the Infrastructure Partnerships Australia’s National Infrastructure Awards.
  • Aware Super Theatre named one of Pollstar’s ‘World’s Top 50 Performing Theatres’ in the first quarter of operation, April 2017.
  • Design, documentation, procurement and installation of a Precinct wide Digital Signage infrastructure including 23 large LED screens in various locations that are utilized for Naming Rights by Commercial Partners, and for Event Promotion and Advertising, general Precinct Wayfinding and Event Information.
  • Unique and first-of-its-kind Green energy approach – 6Star Green Energy Rating, community-funded solar energy project, rainwater capture for irrigation and toilet services and installation of energy efficient lighting infrastructure including intelligent control.
  • Unprecedented ICT Converged Network infrastructure supporting all operational systems, and extensive AV capabilities that underpinned a rapid pivot to allow the delivery of complex remote and virtual events during COVID-19, ensuring the venue maintained profitability.

THE PRECINCT

This 20-hectare, AU$3.4 billion transformation of Darling Harbour delivered a World Class, internationally recognised and awarded Business, Arts, Entertainment, Tourism and Cultural precinct for Sydney.

In addition to the AU$1.5billion investment in ICC Sydney, the public domain redevelopment included 3,000sqm of green space, a stunning new Amphitheatre and Green Event space for over 11,000 people.
CBD adjacent, the precinct is well connected to multiple transport links, with ICC Sydney:
  • A short 10-15minute walk from either Central or Town Hall Train Station.
  • A 5min walk to numerous light rail stations servicing Sydney’s Central Station and inner-west
  • Accessible via muiltiple ferry terminals including Darling Harbour, King Street Wharf, Barangaroo and Pyrmont Bay Wharf are only a short walk from ICC Sydney.
  • 8km from Sydney Airport where guests can make their way to the venue by either taxi or train (20mins).
ICC Sydney is also within walking distance of multiple hotels in Darling Harbour and the Sydney CBD, including the venue’s next-door neighbour, Sofitel Darling Harbour Hotel.
