The post is responsible for assisting effective delivery of the technical and production aspects of events at the arena. The post holder will assist in the technical delivery of all events and venue turnarounds and provide reactive maintenance during event delivery. Responsible for supervising house crew during turnarounds, the post holder will ensure a high level of service delivery, at all times.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBLITIES/ COMPETENCIES:


  • Responsible, alongside the senior technician, for the technical delivery of events in the main auditorium and all associated breakout spaces within the building.
  • Assist with support during events, load in and load outs both internally and externally and acting as event engineer including the installation of temporary power, operation of the building’s sound and lighting systems and event time reactive maintenance.
  • Assist with the advancing of events at Hull Venue, liaising with promoters, tour managers and event organisers.
  • Supervise the safe use of the venue grid and gantry systems.
  • Manage events from load in through to load out, including management of casual and local crew.
  • To act as Duty Technician on a rota basis.
  • To be a key-holder for the building.
  • Assist the senior technician in the development and delivery of training for relevant staff.
  • To carry out, coordinate and plan, work with the senior technician and Event Team to deliver high quality service.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and communications with staff, visitors and clients at all times.
  • Demonstrate the ability and contribute toward building strong working relationships and effective communication within all venue departments.
  • Attend meetings, including technical updates and toolbox talks and promote collective working and demonstrate a cooperative working approach in order to maximise efficiency and effectiveness of the venue operations.
  • During emergencies and urgent situations undertake tasks outside of your core discipline and work both closely and supportively with other departments, clients and external contractors.
  • Assist the senior technician in maintaining relevant risk assessments and safe systems of work in line with Health and Safety Legislation and approved codes of practice.
  • To ensure the use of all PPE provided when required for working activities in line with method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture and ensure all work activities comply with ASM Global Health and Safety policies and procedures (including environment and safe systems of work policies). Including:
    • Undertaking, developing and reviewing risk assessments and method statements for work in which the role involves.
    • Completing incident forms for accidents or near misses or events which require reporting.
    • Remaining vigilant of unforeseen hazards and risks to oneself and others.
  • To undertake any other relevant duties commensurate with the level of responsibility of the role as assigned by the Senior Technician or Head of Operations.
  • To support the other roles within the venue by providing assistance when and where requested.

Skills and Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Minimum of two years working in an events-based environment, ideally within a similar multi-purpose space with a mixed programme.
  • A self-motivated individual with the ability to work without supervision and take responsibility for problem solving, fault-finding and repairs as required.
  • A high level of awareness of Health and Safety issues regarding production and stage production.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the statutory requirements relevant to live events.
  • Understanding of electrical safety relevant to the live events industry.
  • Experience of maintaining technical equipment to a high standard, both proactively and reactively.
  • Excellent IT knowledge including use of MS Office packages
  • Smart appearance and presentation.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Experience in the use of AutoCAD to interpret technical drawings.
  • Experience of DANTE audio networks
  • Experience of event lighting including DMX, Art-Net and sACN.
  • Recent counterbalance Forklift Truck training.
  • Knowledge of BS7909 in relation to electrical systems and willingness to undertake further training.
  • Rigging awareness course or be willing to undertake training.
  • Passionate about service delivery standards and keen to lead by example.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the use of AutoCAD to interpret technical drawings.
  • Experience of DANTE audio networks
  • Experience of event lighting including DMX, Art-Net and sACN.
  • Recent counterbalance Forklift Truck training.
  • Knowledge of BS7909 in relation to electrical systems and willingness to undertake further training.
  • Rigging awareness course or be willing to undertake training.

Additional Points:

Due to the nature of the role, there will be a requirement to work weekends, evenings and public holidays. The role will involve physical labour tasks including manual handling.

There may be a requirement to work at other venues operated by ASM Global.
