Overall Purpose

To provide leadership and guidance to the corporate Health & Safety team functions in occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety and Spectator Safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of ASM Global (UK Venues) Health and Safety Management System to comply with HSG65 and to achieve future compliance with ISO 45001.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of ASM Global (UK Venues and CGC) Health and Safety Policy, ensuring all colleagues are aware of their roles and responsibilities as outlined in the Policy.
  • Responsible for the production and implementation of corporate policies, procedures and guidance.
  • Working with the Corporate Leadership Team to identify and set performance metrics and objectives for the company, individual venues and departments.
  • Provide competent advice and guidance on health and safety issues to enable venues to be compliant with current legislation and to help meet ASM Global corporate health and safety objectives.
  • Carry out regular site inspections and audits to check policies and procedures are being effectively implemented.
  • Help identify Health & Safety training needs across the organisation.
  • To coordinate the workplace e-learning ensuring that all the relevant training is completed by all colleagues in a timely manner and to coordinate ad hoc health & safety training with venue teams.
  • Through effective stakeholder engagement, presentation and influencing skills, ensuring that the leadership team are suitably aware of their responsibilities with regard to Health and Safety and are appropriately briefed and engaged at all times.
  • Working with the venues undertake complex accident investigations to determine root cause and suggest appropriate measures to prevent future incidents.
  • Assist venue management teams to implement systems and procedures to meet current legislation.
  • Support the venues in the provision of defence evidence following any employer and public liability claims. Help produce a portfolio of evidence for consideration by the organisations insurers/loss adjusters.
  • Working with venues to ensure that the venues emergency/ business continuity procedures are reviewed regularly and colleagues are aware of their responsibilities in all emergency situations.
  • Support venue health and safety committees and managers meetings, including the provision of corporate updates and relevant performance reports.
  • To keep up to date on Health and Safety legislation and work with your line manager to ensure ASM Global has systems and practices in place to meet legal requirements.
  • Any other reasonable duties as assigned by line manager.
  • Support the relevant departments in promoting a positive Occupational Health culture, providing input to PEEP plans, risk assessments and wellbeing assessments to ensure colleague safety in the performance of their roles.
  • Assess any occupational hygiene, environmental and safety risks that may affect the health and wellbeing of our colleagues, customers or third party visitors to our sites.
  • Ensure we have adequate appointment and training of site First Aiders to promote the Health & Safety of our colleagues, customers and third party visitors.
  • Ensure the provision and provide training for colleagues on the use of PPE required to safely perform their roles.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of accident/incident reporting procedures (near misses, lost time, RIDDORS) to ensure all accidents are reported, investigated thoroughly and lessons learned are cascaded across the organisation as remedial actions to avoid reoccurrence.
  • Responsible for the collation of group accident statistics and to provide regular management information to the corporate leadership team.

Essential Skills and Competencies:


  • Experience of Health & Safety issues, ideally in an event production environment as well as public and colleague safety.
  • Experience of working in a spectator safety environment such as an entertainment venue or sports ground.
  • Experience of health and safety auditing, inspection, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience of undertaking thorough investigations including accident, incident and near miss.
  • Experience of developing, implementing and revising health and safety policy, procedure and guidance.
  • A good working knowledge of The Guide to Safety at Sports Ground (The Green Guide).
  • A good working knowledge of the Purple Guide to Health, Safety and Welfare at Music and other Events.
  • A good working knowledge of event and building management, maintenance and custodial functions in various areas including: Event Management, M&E, Security, House-Keeping and Health & Safety.
  • A good working knowledge of Construction Site Health and Safety including detailed knowledge Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 would be desirable.
  • A good working knowledge of Fire Safety including Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and British Standard BS5749 (2019) would be desirable.
  • Experience of procuring and managing contracted operational services in a customer focused environment.
  • Experience of managing budgets to ensure financial targets are met.
  • A track record of excellent project management skills.
  • Up to date technical knowledge of legislation, regulation and approved industry codes of practice, with the ability to translate these requirements so that key stakeholders have the appropriate degree of understanding to enable the safe operation of our business
  • Ideally a graduate with a relevant degree or qualified to a minimum of NEBOSH Diploma.
  • The ability to build good working relationships with colleagues, local authorities, event organisers, and other relevant external stakeholders and agencies.
