Assistant Manager (F&B/Bars) - AO Arena, Manchester


To support with the management of the Food & Beverage operation during event and non-event days and ensure the provision of customer service and operational excellence at all times.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage a team of F&B professionals, acting as first point of contact for any operational issues.
  • Support the management team with resource planning and payroll forecasting to include the creation and distribution of staff rotas and escalating when a need for external agency support may be required.
  • Checking-in of staff on event days and allocating them to their designated work positions according to the resource plan.
  • Where bars may be understaffed, coordinate and re-organise labour to ensure all bar areas are staffed sufficiently to support successful service delivery.
  • Conduct event briefings with your teams to ensure they are fully aware of expected capacity, target sales, promotional offers, operational updates and queue management systems.
  • Supporting a team of Supervisors in the delivery of on the job training to new and existing staff.
  • Ensure teams are working in compliance with all necessary food hygiene, allergens and health & safety regulations.
  • Support with the recruitment of casual staff to include interviews, training and organising staff inductions
  • Support your teams in the successful delivery of “Challenge 25” on all alcohol related products.
  • Promote continuous improvement and help to identify new ways of working to help improve efficiency and enhance our service offering.
  • Movement and management of stock to include stock rotation and stock counts.
  • Ensure operational ways of working allow for reductions in waste management.
  • Support with the programming of menus and tariffs on the till system on an event by event basis.
  • Support the business in its progression to a cashless system by reporting on cash vs card transactions.
  • Level 2 Food safety certificate.
  • Manual handling certification.
  • Understanding of Natasha’s Law.

Skills and Qualifications


  • A solid grounding of working within the events or bars industry.
  • A proven track record of leading and supervising a team.
  • Confident in the use of IT systems and Microsoft Excel/Word.
  • Strong communicator and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Fully flexible and able to work evenings and weekends.


  • Possession of a personal licence.
  • Level 2 Food safety certificate.
  • Manual handling certification.
  • Understanding of Natasha’s Law.
