Casual Stewards, The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester

Casual Stewards, The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester

Operated by ASM Global, The Bridgewater Hall is one of Manchester’s most prestigious cultural venues. Every year we host over 300 performances of classical music, rock, pop and other music-related and spoken word events, in addition to a diverse learning programme. The building also provides a stunning location for conferences, meetings and other events.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic and reliable individuals, ideally with experience of delivering high quality customer service, to join our Front of House stewarding team on a temporary basis (30th November 2021 to 21st January) to help us with our busy festive season and the MMU Graduations. There may be a possibility of more work after this for those who are interested.

The Front of House department is responsible for the comfort and safety of all visitors. This leads us to interact with a wide variety of people including concert patrons, conference delegates, performers, workshop participants etc. These responsibilities are met with the assistance of a mixed team of stewards and volunteers.

The main role of a steward is to interact with visitors to the hall, ensuring them a comfortable, safe and enjoyable visit and working with the rest of the team to provide a pleasant environment.

You would fulfil this role by…

  • Providing a warm, friendly yet professional and pro-active welcome to visitors.
  • Greeting patrons entering the auditorium, checking tickets and directing them to their seats.
  • Directing patrons to the Hall’s facilities and pro-actively addressing all other questions and queries.
  • Providing appropriate assistance to visitors with specific needs i.e. mobility issues, within the confines of the Hall’s policies.
  • Dealing effectively with latecomers and access/egress of the auditorium within the latecomers’ policy.
  • Monitoring the auditorium and foyer spaces during the performance, acting as a point of contact for patrons, ensuring compliance with the house rules and reporting any issues in a timely manner to a manager.
  • Thoroughly checking and monitoring your allocated working area before, during and after events to ensure full compliance with the Hall’s H&S, Security and other policies and standards, reporting any issues as necessary.
  • Assisting the operation of safe crowd management as appropriate.
  • Being fully aware of the buildings evacuation procedures, and prepared to follow them in the event of an emergency situation. Including the use of evacuation chairs.
  • Following all protocols and procedures laid out in Venue Shield, ASM Global’s Covid-Safe programme, and ensuring all visitors comply with the appropriate guidance.
  • Carrying out pre and post-event pick-ups of rubbish & lost property, and assisting the housekeeping team in keeping the building clean.
  • Selling programmes, ice cream, and other merchandise when required.
  • Operating the cloakroom.
  • Acting as a cashier, counting and reconciling takings and stock.
  • Working closely as a team with other stewards, volunteers and the House Management team, ensuring a friendly and professional atmosphere.

Successful applicants are invited to join our casual database, giving them the opportunity to sign up for events based shifts.

Although we are open seven days a week from morning until night, most stewarding shifts tend to be evenings. We are particularly looking to recruit people who have good availability at weekends (Friday evening to Sunday). The shifts during the MMU Graduations (11th to 21st January are longer and predominantly daytime. Shifts are allocated fortnightly based on availability.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 14th November. Interviews will take place weeks commencing 15th and 22nd November and successful candidates will be invited to an induction on Tuesday 30th November.

Hourly Rate:£9.00/ £8.45 (age dependant) per hour
