The Venue

The Bridgewater Hall is one of Manchester’s most prestigious cultural venues. Every year we host over 300 performances of classical music, rock, pop and other music-related and spoken word events, in addition to a diverse learning programme. The building also provides a stunning location for conferences, meetings and other events.

Working at the Bridgewater Hall is an exciting and fun opportunity for all, with the added bonus of flexible shifts to fit around the other important things in life. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our Learning and Participation team working on a casual event driven basis.

Customer service is at the heart of everything we do and we are looking for team players that can make a positive contribution to the overall customer experience. We welcome applicants who take pride in their work, have a positive friendly attitude and possess excellent communication skills.

The Role

Learning & Participation Assistants support the smooth running of workshops and events, liaising with other BWH departments, and being a point of contact for external facilitators, staff and participants during a session.

All L&P Assistants will be given an induction ahead of their first L&P event, and will be provided with information about the nature of each session they work ahead of the date. They will also receive all relevant health and safety training, building induction and fire and evacuation training as required by all staff at The Bridgewater Hall.

You will be responsible for;

  • Deputising for the Community Engagement Manager and Community Engagement Coordinator for agreed session or workshop.
  • Assisting with load-in and load-out of equipment from Artist Entrance.
  • Preparing rooms within BWH to allow L&P activity to take place – moving and removing furniture, opening / closing windows, tidying.
  • Unpacking L&P resources from storage for use in workshops – percussion equipment, sensory resources etc.
  • Working alongside Front of House, Technical, Bars & Catering and other departments to ensure L&P events run smoothly.
  • Printing and photocopying additional materials and resources.
  • Assisting participants moving around the building – directing them to toilets, lifts etc.
  • Being an active participant in workshops – modelling good behaviour and participation, and supporting workshop delivery teams.
  • Be welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful to facilitators and participants, and support them to enjoy their time in the venue.

You will have;

  • Demonstrate an interest in arts education and community engagement, and a desire to gain more experience in the industry.
  • A willingness to take part and be an active participant in L&P sessions if required.
  • The ability to communicate sensitively and appropriately with all external staff and participants, including children and those with SEND.
  • A proven ability to work as part of a team, whilst also taking your own initiative to problem solve and enhance experiences for participants.
  • A good understanding of the work and operations of The Bridgewater Hall.
  • An understanding of the expectations of a workplace, in terms of dress, attendance, attitude and safe working practices.
